This work provides audiences an opportunity to engage with the diverse and complex ways in which queer identity is understood by those who live it, and how this may have changed inter-generationally. The intention of this project is to further strengthen the connectivity between all sub-groups of Aotearoa NZ’s Queer and Gender Diverse community, impacting conversation and relationships and creating a shared movement of solidarity for the future growth of the broader community.

This ongoing kaupapa engages a more recent discursive turn – can we halt the increasing separatism between generational factions and create better intergenerational harmony, while upholding each individual’s right to own their fluidity, flexibility, diversity and plurality in identity interpretation and construction? In assembling a coalition of voices across the generations to articulate a collective view of queer positions, utilising photographic portraiture, first person written statements, and video recordings of semi-structured interviews, the aim is to establish that an alliance’s symbiosis and force of critique is strengthened when coalitional politics are recognised as being both distinct and mutually reinforcing. Viewers are encouraged to participate by adding their photographic and written representation of self to the growing community being assembled, providing historic documentation now and going forward that we "have been", we "are", and we will BE!
