Auckland Pride are proud to celebrate the return of OurSelves, with a second issue featuring eleven creatives from within Aotearoa’s rainbow communities.
Edited by Courtney Sina Meredith & Janet Lilo, and once again designed by Sarah Gladwell, we hope this latest publication will delight and lend strength to those who discover their community reflected in it.
Launched in January 2020 as a free publication – OurSelves is a journal of queer culture published by Auckland Pride. Its first issue was edited by Jeremy Hansen, every issue aims to capture some of the diversity of our voices by spotlighting and celebrating the lives and work of people from within Aotearoa’s rainbow communities, many of whom feature in Auckland Pride Festivals.
OurSelves Issue Two features: Rosanna Raymond, Ta’i Paitai, Tuāfale Tanoa’i, Beatrice Clarke & Emma Quigan, Hera Lindsay Bird, Pipiana Hemi, Lonnie Hutchinson, and Ary Jansen.
Reflecting on The newest issue, editors Courtney Sina Meredith & Janet Lilo say “our vision for this journal was simple given the complicated times we are living in: to explore a new world, an open world. We are biased but pure of heart in describing this edition as true alchemy. Universal elixir or not – a huge mahalo to all of the contributors for collectively summoning the best of our selves, and for positioning their stories front and centre. This is where we belong. In the quiet talanoa between lovers, in the engine room of major events, at the helm of social change, and simply with a wine in hand at various dinner parties. This is where you’ll find us.
So’o le fau i le fau. Join hibiscus fibre to hibiscus fibre. Unity is strength.”
